HP '07 KONVENTION SUMMIT DAY
A Walk in Timm's Hill Park

On Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast at High Point Village, HPers trekked 1 mile to the Wisconsin high point, Timm's Hill (1951.5ft). There they jockeyed for a turn at their "summit shot" beneath the steel fire tower. For a view of Wisconsin they climbed the stairs of the site's wooden tower. Some hearty climbers scaled the ladder leading to the platform of the metal tower for an even better view. Juicy, cool, post-summit watermelon was on hand for all to enjoy following their WI HP venture.

According to Jean Trousdale, Ma Merc, 247 HP crazies attended/participated in the Konvention festivities. There was lots going on in the Asheville area and attendees soaked it up. Highpointers Get Bitten By The Big Apple

On Saturday, April 29th, 15 highpointers showed for Roger Rowlett's mini-gig across from Ground Zero. The group included attendees from Alabama, Oklahoma, Alaska, and the Netherlands. All lunched at the South West NY Restaurant, 2 World Financial Center, an impressive, modern, spacious array of restaurants and shops.

Afterwards, Roger planned to underground the group to Brooklyn's high point in Green-Wood Cemetery. Getting "checked out" of our too-popular lunch spot, however, consumed some time. Add to this subway tie-ups, including a broken water main and general maintenance, conducted on weekends, and you've just blown the Plan B reroute - the cemetery closes at 4PM. Ergo, the game was called owing to unforseen Big Apple delays.

Hey, Roger, to be safe, next time let's make it an early breakfast gathering and there'll be time for the Brooklyn and Staten Island highpoints even if we have to hike there. TTT

HIGHPOINTER CLUB KONVENTION SPEAKER...

The '06 Konvention Kommittee says Stuart Smith will be the featured speaker in Asheville. He is the 1st American and only 7th person to complete the Adventure Grand Slam—all the world highpoints and both the north and south pole. In the next issue of the HP newsletter, or the one after, there will be bio of Stuart, so be watching for it. Hopefully, Aron Ralston likes cheese and will show up at the WI-2007 Konvention near Timms Hill.
